Marketing Communications Coordinator

THE POSITION:

Wildlife Rescue is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and self-directed individual as its Marketing Communications Coordinator. This role will work in the development office, reporting to the Director, Development & Marketing Communications, to advance the organization’s mission locally and regionally, and support the strategic direction and planned growth of Wildlife Rescue. If you love wildlife and care about human impacts on them, if you are keen to learn the ins and outs of how a nonprofit organization functions and want the opportunity to wear many different hats – all with a specific goal to increase awareness of an organization – we want to hear from you.  You’ll coordinate initiatives that are already in place while bringing new creative ideas to our organization. This position provides a lot of latitude and is ideal for someone who enjoys being creative and taking the initiative.

Wage:                                   $14 – 18/hr, depending on experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

Press & Media Relations

  • Manage media relationships including
    • writing and distributing press releases, media kits, media relations content, etc
    • Pitching stories to news media and coordinating press interviews that raise awareness of the work of the WRA.
    • Tracking media coverage
  • Respond to enquiries from the public, the press, and related organizations

Public Relations & Brand

  • Develop content and relatable and compelling key messages for a full range of printed and digital materials and campaigns:
    • to help connect stakeholders with Wildlife Rescue’s mission and impact.
    • in support of public relations and resource development work
  • Proactively develop and deliver the organization’s messages to internal stakeholders, the public, and the media.
  • Promote, protect and steward Wildlife Rescue’s brand and reputation. This includes driving Wildlife Rescue Association’s brand strategy to the local market and ensuring brand compliance.
  • Support staff and volunteers on Wildlife Rescue Association’s key messages.

Website & Social Media

  • Maintain website design and operation
  • Manage Wildlife Rescue’s social media assets: create/post regular content (including photos and video) for various platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Execute the organization’s digital strategy relating to website, social media and other mobile products with the goal of building relationships with donors, volunteers, staff and the community

Marketing & Communications

  • Create and maintain marketing and promotional materials, both print and electronic
  • Take projects knowledgably from concept to completion e.g. newsletter, calendar
  • Negotiate the purchase of advertising space, create ad content and follow up to ensure that ad placement and billing proceed smoothly
  • Work with publication vendors for timely ad submissions
  • Create bi-annual newsletter content, design and circulation
  • Design and create ads to help support departmental marketing needs
  • Create and maintain organization literature and other forms of communication
  • Regularly develop fresh story ideas for press releases, blog, social media, newsletters, website

General

  • Work directly with the Director, Development & Marketing Communications to identify and execute project needs and specifications
  • Achieve annual goals & objectives as laid out in the organization’s strategic plan and by the Director

IMPORTANT SKILLS

  • Strong writing, copy editing, proofreading and layout/design skills are essential
  • High degree of problem-solving abilities, creativity, and attention to detail
  • Proven time and organizational management skills
  • Flexibility with changes in task and priorities along with using sound judgment
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in social media and digital media
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and team player with a positive and professional approach
  • Experienced with MS Office, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, video editing) and Mailchimp
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and moral standards
  • Able to represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Love for wildlife and a passion for making a difference

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or equivalent work experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or business administration
  • Direct experience working with the news media, writing press releases, and organizing media events
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in multi-channel marketing and communications
  • Minimum 1 year’s work experience developing layout, photography and videography, both for print and online
  • Experience with coordinating digital media platforms for marketing and communication purposes (including SEO, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Excellent and demonstrable writing skills
  • Professional, personable and proficient in managing relationships incl. contractor relationships, such as web designer, digital marketing company, printer and advertising partners
