Position:              Junior Wildlife Technician

Hours:                  On-call, up to 40 hours per week

Wage:                   $12.65 / hr

We are Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre, now with over 5,000 animal ‘clients’ a year. We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us at entry level. This on-call position offers 0 – 40 hours a week, depending on Wildlife Hospital need. During the busy spring and summer (May-September), regular hours will be available. After September available hours will depend on workload.

Our Junior Technicians perform daily animal care duties and assist in the daily operations of our Wildlife Hospital, including volunteer supervision and development. There is a large, ongoing learning component to this role.

  • legal entitlement to work in BC, Canada;
  • high emotional intelligence, self-awareness and a drive to develop yourself and others;
  • ability to function well in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment;
  • experience working with animals;
  • excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • ability to take an active role in the daily supervision and training of volunteers;
  • ability to look at the big picture and provide great attention to detail; and
  • ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (no overnight shifts).

Our ideal candidate may have some or all of the following additional qualifications:

  • knowledge of native wildlife in BC, particularly birds and small mammals;
  • post-secondary education in biological or environmental sciences; and
  • leadership experience.
