At our Annual General Meeting in June 2018, new bylaws were passed to comply with changes to the BC Society Act and to update the membership guidelines. Outlined below are updates to member categories, rights and responsibilities of membership, and the application process to become a member.  We encourage you to read through and invite you to consider becoming a member of Wildlife Rescue Association.

Why become a Member of Wildlife Rescue Association?

Wildlife Rescue Association is a non-profit organization that has been leading efforts in rehabilitating wildlife and in promoting the welfare of wild animals in the urban environment since 1979. As a member, you will have a voice in the governance of the organization and play an important role in helping guide the vision and growth for wildlife rehabilitation.

    A Member in good standing has the following RIGHTS of membership:

    • to receive notice of, and to attend, all General Meetings;
    • to make or second motions at a General Meeting and to speak in debate on motions under consideration in accordance with such rules of order as may be adopted;
    • to serve on committees of the Society, as invited;
    • to exercise a vote on matters for determination at General Meetings;
    • to nominate for the election of Directors;
    • to be nominated to stand for election as a Director;
    • to participate in the programs and initiatives of the Society, in accordance with such criteria as may be determined by the Board from time to time.

    A Member in good standing also has the following RESPONSIBILITIES of membership:

    1. To uphold the constitution of the Society and comply with these Bylaws;
    2. To be knowledgeable of Wildlife Rescue’s mission, goals and priorities;
    3. To participate in good faith in a way which would be most likely to further the mission and purposes of Wildlife Rescue Association;
    4. To attend the Annual General Meeting, and to have reviewed the AGM materials that are sent to you in advance;
    5. To engage in dialogue and debate in a positive and respectful manner;
    6. To pay your annual membership dues on time.

    Please note: Membership is not required to access any Wildlife Rescue Association programs or services.

    Eligibility for Membership as stated from Society Bylaws for Wildlife Rescue Association

    To be eligible for transition or admission as a Member in a particular category, a Person or Organization must meet the following requirements:

    1. Individual Members are Persons at least 18 years of age interested in supporting the purposes and activities of the Society.
    2. Organizational Members are Organizations.
    3. Lifetime Members are Persons and Organizations who have paid a one-time lifetime membership fee.

    In the case of any ambiguity or doubt regarding the eligibility of a Person or Organization for membership, such ambiguity or doubt will be resolved by a decision of the Board, in its sole discretion, and such decision will be without appeal.

    Membership Types and Dues

    Your membership due goes directly to supporting wildlife rehabilitation efforts. Membership of Wildlife Rescue Association consists of the following categories of voting members:

     Individual Member                                    $ 35 – annually

     Organizational Member                           $ 350 – annually

     Lifetime Member                                       $ 350 – one time fee

    Other Ways to Get Involved

    If you are keen to engage in Wildlife Rescue’s initiatives but are not passionate about governance, there are other ways you can get involved. Please check out the Get Involved section of our site learn about volunteer roles, job opportunities, how to become a donor, and more.  Wildlife Rescue’s monthly giving program is one of our most popular, as it allows people to easily put supporting wildlife into their monthly budget.

    If you would like to become a Wildlife Rescue Association member, we encourage you to fill out the application form below. Please note that our organization’s bylaws mandate the Wildlife Rescue Board of Directors Membership Committee must review and approve all membership applications. You can expect to hear back on the status of your application within approximately one month.
