Telling the stories behind the rescues

As Communications Coordinator at Wildlife Rescue, I’ve spent my days translating the work of our team into something tangible—helping people understand what we do, and why it matters. Along the way, I’ve been lucky enough to experience some truly special moments. Carefully feeding bats (and falling in love with their tiny teeth and little sounds), capturing recovered patients who are released back into the wild, and somehow finding myself with a new favourite species almost every single week. Just as meaningful have been the connections with the people who care deeply about this work, who follow along, support, share, and show up when it matters most.

Suited up with PPE to take photos of bat patients.

At the heart of all of this is community. This work simply wouldn’t be possible without the network of supporters, donors, volunteers, and advocates who show up, again and again, for wildlife in BC. Every rescue is a collective effort, and being part of that has given me a renewed sense of purpose in the work I do.

While soon, I may no longer be the person behind the stories, the work continues every day, with the same dedication and care. The stories will continue too, because there will always be more animals in distress, more people willing to help, and a community ready to make those second chances possible.

Elin has been Wildlife Rescue's communication's coordinator since October 2023. She is heading back home to the Netherlands in August 2026 and we will miss her immensely! Best wishes, Elin!
